Self-defense
Self-defense is any (legally permitted) direct defense against an illegal attack or an impending danger. Karate in its original form is a self-defense system based on striking, pushing and kicking techniques. The self-defense techniques are taken from the Fudokan Karate Kata.

Types of attack:

  • Attacks with emphasis on physical contact:
  • Defending against physical violence
  • Defending against grabs

Attacks without emphasis on physical contact:
  • Defending against punches and pushes
  • Defending against weapon attacks

Situations:

  • Defending in different directions
  • Defending while sitting and lying down
  • Defending against multiple opponents
  • Defending against combined attacks
  • (e.g. hand grip and punch)
  • Defending against attacks by third parties

Types of defense:
Two types of defense are always considered. The first type is a direct, uncompromising defense against such aggression. It is assumed that the attackers' intentions are dangerous. The second type aims to free oneself without causing great damage. Here, harmless nerve points are usually attacked or Tuite-jutsu is used.
