Jukuren
Jukuren has two meanings. On the one hand, Jukuren stands for the karate of experienced people who have extensive knowledge of karate and have found their own path. The second meaning stands for newcomers and latecomers who have already gained life experience but are not experienced in the martial arts. Be that as it may, in Japanese culture, age and experience are highly valued, in contrast to much of the culture of the western hemisphere. Since karate can be practiced into old age, our dojo is open to every Jukuren.
JU is the Japanese word for physical softness. This suits a young practitioner best, as he is still malleable and open. WA is a term that is better suited to the advanced, older karateka. WA is a privilege of time, age, patience. WA describes the Japanese principle of harmony, inner peace and harmony with oneself and nature. WA is also gentleness of mind, the key to peace. In this way, the karateka who slowly and patiently follows the path (DO) becomes a new person. Nevertheless: the spirit of the beginner (Shosin) should be retained. Because someone who has learned a lot is always open to new developments!
