Kumite
WHAT IS KUMITE?

Kumite are combat exercises to develop correct karatedo techniques with one or more partners. Kumite is the application of theory, the actual use of karatedo techniques and the execution of attack and counterattack in karatedo. There are set movement exercises (Yakusoku Kumite), free fighting at training level (Jiyu Kumite) and Shiai at competition level.
YAKUSOKU - KUMITE

The Yakusoku-Kumite is a practice fight in which agreements are made with the partner regarding the attack, defense and counterattack as well as the number of attacks. The techniques carried out must always be practiced with the intention of incapacitating the attacker with a single technique (Ikken-hissatsu).
JIYU - KUMITE

In Jiyu-kumite, the techniques can be freely chosen. The practitioners can use their mental and physical skills without restriction, but the techniques must be under safe control. These free combat exercises primarily develop the ability to react, decisiveness and courage.
All Kumite are based on the techniques of the Kata and the real experiences of the masters of Karatedo. The primary goal of Kumite is to develop the necessary understanding of the main techniques. When practicing the various Kumite, the partner helps to recognize your own mistakes. This allows the possibilities of Kumite training to be fully exploited.
